‘Canada Needs Our Lady’ Is a Crusade to Restore Canada

JULY 1, 2022 | BY JOSEPH GENSENS

To address the moral crisis facing the nation today, the Canadian Society for the Defence of Christian Civilization started a special campaign called Canada Needs Our Lady. Founded in 2014, the campaign is a spiritual crusade to win the hearts and minds of Canadians for Mary Most Holy.

This crusade promotes and defends the values of Catholic civilization. From its main office in Saint Hubert, Quebec, members reach out to concerned families and individuals, using every means to spread the message of Our Lady of Fatima.

Going into the streets: Public Square Rosary Rallies, and Marches for Life

Canada Needs Our Lady seeks to engage the culture through a variety of means.

One powerful way of spreading the Catholic faith today is through public prayer. Indeed, public prayer is a way of making reparation for all the public sins committed today. Each year, Canada Needs Our Lady organizes hundreds of Public Square Rosary Rallies across the country. On October 16, 2021, there were an encouraging 649 Rosary rallies throughout the country.

A big highlight of this effort was the 2017 celebration of the 100th Anniversary of Our Lady of Fatima’s apparitions. The rallies held in October of that year showed the enthusiasm of the participants. One rosary rally captain in Regina, Saskatchewan reported on her rally of 60 people that “Attendees doubled this year. . . Our Blessed Mother was touching and calling everyone to come.”

The Rosary Rallies organized in October 2020 faced difficult challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic and the subsequent lockdowns. The situation looked bleak because of the obstacles. However, when the Rosary Rallies took place, the final tally was 351!

Each year, Canada Needs Our Lady also joins thousands of pro-lifers at the National March for Life in Ottawa. Young volunteers play Marian hymns on bagpipes and drums to encourage the marchers as they take a stand for the unborn.

Going into Homes: The Fatima home visits, and Rosary Mailings

Our Lady appears to St Simon StockA crucial part of the Canada Needs Our Lady campaign is its home visitation program, spreading devotion to Our Lady of Fatima. A Canada Needs Our Lady custodian visits Catholics in their houses with a large statue of Our Lady of Fatima. He speaks about the importance of Our Lady’s message for today and gives the “homework” asked by Our Blessed Mother—prayer, the Holy Rosary, making sacrifices for poor sinners, and amendment of life.

During the home visits, the custodian focuses on the Five First Saturday’s devotion, which Our Lady asked as a means to make reparation for all the blasphemies and offences against her Immaculate Heart. The visit always concludes with the Rosary.

When Our Lady gave the Holy Rosary to Saint Dominic in 1214, she called it a “battering ram” against evil. Canada Needs Our Lady puts this powerful weapon into the hands of Catholics through home mailings. In the last eight years, over 275,000 rosaries have been distributed by mail to homes around the country.

Going Online: The e-mail and e-protest campaigns

Another part of this crusade to win Canada for Mary is the e-mail and e-protest campaigns. Canada Needs Our Lady uses modern e-mail techniques to protest against an ever-increasing number of blasphemies and attacks against Our Lord, Our Lady, and the Catholic faith.

During Christmas 2020, Canada Needs Our Lady organized an e-protest to prevent the removal of a Nativity scene in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Every year for the past 65 years, the Knights of Columbus of Thunder Bay have put up a Nativity scene in the city’s Connaught Square without a problem.

A local man Vic Germaniuk protested to the city explaining: “If city council does not rescind this parochial display, then in all fairness, the city and its parks must give way to other religious orders, such as the satanic temple, a Muslim display, a Buddhist shrine… or shut the whole thing down and remain neutral.” 1

A group of four Satanists took up this man’s cause and in a letter to the city council stated that “giving favours to one specific religious organization or creed...is not a practice befitting a public institution which is meant to represent constituents of dozens of different faiths."2

Moving Forward With the Certainty of Victory

There are few natural solutions to the present problems in Canada. That is why Canada Needs Our Lady can look to the future with courage and faith. With the most powerful weapon, the Holy Rosary, the Faithful can wage war against the devil with the certainty of victory. When Our Lady appeared at Fatima in 1917, she foretold the crisis, but she also proclaimed her victory, saying, “Finally, my Immaculate Heart will triumph.” With this in mind, Canada Needs Our Lady moves forward with confidence in the crusade to win hearts and minds for Mary Most Holy.
